The journey of Laura mirrors that of Esther’s own mother Brenda who was blind from birth. It is told in a dramatic story form and all major incidents are true. Stanton is loosely based on a town in Northamptonshire which is still the narrator’s home. All experiences are accurate as are the interviews towards the end of the book. The emotional journey of Esther’s mirrors her own. The search her search and triumph her triumph. The death of her father James is vividly remembered as is her stepfather’s unwelcome arrival. The only similarity is that he is blind as was her father. A cruel and a shocking roll model. Happiness returns in the end. Family links re-connected. An ending with some questions still needing to be answered. |
